Try mounting the backup partition again via the WHS console and it should now work. No joy. Stopping all the background programs running in the task bar solved the problem. My server has been running great since the early days, updating, and permitting access to files when needed. Same error. I then tried to restore from a created recovery USB, but the external drive with the required tib file was not visible to Acronis. I only have 2009 installed ATM.
The former worked fine while booting into Win7 gave me the "Cannot mount the backup" at 81%. Mount function seems to accept a maximum of 4 partitions. IF the drive leter is already in use, that can soemtimes block assignment tothenewly connected drive, a situation that is easily fixed by reassigning drive letters. Reinstall Connector software.
Cause There can be various causes for this. By the way the beta version of Vail seems to work properly on my machines. Even installed IE8 and updates. It takes about 1 minute then I get another popup "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive" The only option is to click OK.
