I verified, that in %SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers the files Termdd.sys und Rdpwd.sys were present. x 12 Rhys O Wait MS suggested deleting the following Reg Key, (take an export 1st): HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Defaults\Provider Types\Type 001 and then re-applying the latest Security Rollup Patch. I'd spent weeks releasing new gold images adding bits in one at a time and had got down to "Ohh dear, it's Windows updates". Rather than one fix after another, you should restore your system state from backup, taken just before attack occured. I un-installed it and it worked fine. This solves the problem. Essentially it seems that is is a known problem on a windows 2003 server with RDP and ICA protocols. The fix I eventually found was to change the protected storage service to automatic and make sure that it's running. Hope this helps.
